In Progress

I began painted my giant pot. I’ve painted all the carvings blue, albeit a bit messily. I will paint the background a light brown next class. (5/21/24).

My pot came out of the kiln!! I can’t wait to start painting. (5/20/24).

I’ve recently been spending a lot of time sanding, and sanding, and sanding, and then sanding some more. The work is paying off though because it looks a lot more smooth than before! Hopefully it’ll dry pretty quickly and I can get it into the kiln. (5/14/24).

I carved the designs into my pot and have begun touch ups and sanding. I’m very happy with how it’s looking right now. (5/8/24).

I’ve finished coil building my pot. I’ll start smoothing it out and adding the carvings and details next class. (4/30/24).

I’m over halfway done with the coil-building part of my final ceramics project this year. I started it a week ago and it’s gotten very large, very fast. I used a cardboard cut-out with the wiggles that I wanted so that I had a base for when to curve and straighten the clay. It’s going well!! (4/25/24).

My bowl is finally finished! It’s only decorative because it’s super delicate, but I’m very happy with how it turned out. I’ve updated my Ceramics page now! (4/17/24).

I got to work repairing the cracks and using Elmer’s Glue to stick everything back together. Thankfully, it shattered into sizable chunks for the most part so it’s not proving too difficult to fit together. While I am very sad that it is not what I intended it to be, I think it’ll still look pretty cool. (4/11/24).

SOS!!!! Disaster struck and I dropped my cup while touching up the gold cracks. Ironically, the previously broken handle stayed entirely intact. I am devastated, but I will repair it with some glue and, because it will have no practical use, will be displayed as an art piece instead. (4/11/24).

I used epoxy to glue the handle back onto the cup and I will now use adhesive and gold flakes to cover the epoxy and make a traditional kintsugi effect of healing cracks with gold. (4/5/24).

After we came back from spring break, my butterfly cup came out of the kiln but the handle had broken off. I will use epoxy to get it back together again next class. (4/3/24)

Everyone in class spun out some quick elevated pinch pots which we will connected together to create a cool sort of sculpture. Each cup only takes a few minutes to make but they've turned out really cool. (3/12/24).

After some ups and downs with my butterfly cup (the handle refused to stay on, haha!), it is now green-glazed and drying, ready to be put in the kiln this weekend (hopefully)! (3/11/24).

I began painting the background of my tiles which have different textures and colors to signify how everyone is different and comes from different places, but "I love you" always means the same thing. (3/10/24).

Today, we used the stamps that we made for our tiles and put them in ink to create beautiful stamps on colorful papers. These papers will be put into a little booth and have QR codes of a playlist about love for people to go and listen to. (3/5/24)

I began touch ups on my butterfly cup and have been working on gluing the broken handle back on which will then be fully glued by the green glaze. (3/5/24).

My butterfly cup came out of the kiln and the handle had fallen off. I will either use epoxy to stick it back on or use the glaze to act as a natural glue. On the bright side, I love the colors (though I may touch up the background) and the butterfly’s details came through very well. (2/27/24)

I began to paint my tiles. Like the red letters, they’ll all have some things in common while the rest will be different. (2/27/24)

I took my tiles out of the kiln! They’re now ready to glaze. (2/26/24)

Since my works are in the kiln, I sketched some ideas with a classmate for our next projects. This picture shows the designs of a triangle-pyramid with each of the four top sides having a miniature depiction of a seasonal activity. (2/26/24)

I finished the final details on my butterfly cup. It will go into the kiln to ensure that my designs and colors are how I want them, and then I will green-clear glaze it before firing it for the last time. (2/23/24)

I glazed my platter with green-clear glaze. The green-clear glaze allows the platter to be fired at a lower temperature so that the colors can stay as bright as possible. It is going into the kiln for the final time this weekend. (2/23/24)

I pressed my tiles into clay and I personalized each of them, adding different designs to each infinity shape and touching up all the letters. They’re ready to go into the kiln! (2/21/24)

I continued to paint and add second coats to my butterfly cup. It's almost ready to go into the kiln! (2/12/24)

My platter came out of the kiln! I will refine some details and polish some things up before I use an over-glaze and put it into the kiln for the last time. (2/9/124)

I transferred my drawings onto my plastic and will start to carve it soon! (2/9/24)

I started a new project of making tiles that all say I love you. I sketched out many designs and this picture displays my final design. (2/8/24)

I began painting my butterfly bowl a few days ago and here is my progress so far! You can just see a bit of my reference picture behind the bowl. (1/16/24)

This is my dried butterfly cup. It is ready to go into the kiln! (1/4/24)

This is a plate I've been working on since last year. I spent the class period adding more flowers in different colors. (1/4/24)

This is my finished and glazed alphabet bowl! I also trimmed and created the handles for one of my (not pictured) teacups.

I threw on the wheel and made two bowls/teacups. I will trim them next week and begin work on my animal-handle set. (12/8/23)

I glazed the background and inside of my letter bowl with clear glaze. This means that when it’s fired, the letters will be matte and will pop out against the shiny background. (12/7/23)

As my other projects are finished, I began sketching a new set of teacups that I’m working on. I’d like them to be animal themed, and for one part of the animal, like the trunk, neck, or tail, to become the handle(s). (12/4/23)

I finished painting the letters, the bottom of the bowl, and the inside of the bowl. I also cleaned up the edges. It’s time for the kiln!! (12/1/23)

I continued painting the letters on my bowl. I have one letter left. (11/29/23)

I finished painting every piece on my still-life and then added some extra coats onto already painted objects. I also cleaned up the edges and background. I am finished painting my still-life!! (11/28/23)

I continued painting the letters on my alphabet bowl. (11/21/23)

I painted on another coat of green on the far right bottle and began cleaning up the edges of the objects and background. (11/20/23)

I painted the glass and added a few more coats to the horizontal bottle. I also added another coat to the background. (11/17/23)

I started slowly but surely painting the letters of my alphabet bowl. I will be going color by color and paint a few letters one color. (11/13/23)

I continued to mix paints and paint my still-life piece. (11/13/23)

I continued putting on the base coats of oil paint for my still-life before I start cleaning up the edges and adding details. (11/9/23)

I painted the background of my bowl with under glaze. (11/8/23)

Today I painted the background of my still-life with oil paints. (11/7/23)

This is my alphabet bowl out of the kiln! (11/6/23)

Here is my fired and gesso-ed piece!! (11/6/23)

This is my sanded and finished still-life piece ready to go in the kiln! (10/31/23)

These pictures are of my first Empty Bowls bowl, it's designed as an Alphabet Soup bowl. I just finished carving all the letters and putting them on the side, and I also smoothed out the bottom of the bowl. (10/31/23)

This is my un-fired still-life piece. It hasn't been sanded yet, but I just finished cleaning up the edges and making a horizon line. (10/24/23)
